Playground v2.5 is a text-to-image latent diffusion model from Playground AI, built on the same architecture as Stable Diffusion XL with two fixed pretrained text encoders, OpenCLIP-ViT/G and CLIP-ViT/L.
Playground AI built it around three improvements over Playground v2, better color and contrast, a wider range of supported aspect ratios, and more accurate human-centric details in faces, eyes, and hands.
On the MJHQ-30K benchmark, Playground v2.5 scores an FID of 4.48, against 9.55 for SDXL and 7.07 for Playground v2, with a lower score meaning closer alignment to real images. In Playground AI's own blind preference study, testers favored v2.5 over SDXL by a 4.8x margin, up from the 2.5x margin Playground v2 held over SDXL, and also favored it over DALL-E 3 and Midjourney 5.2.
